The BJP's Delhi unit on Sunday organised a seminar to brainstorm solutions for a better living for those residing in slum clusters and resettlement colonies in the Capital. The seminar "Har Jhuggi Ko Samman Sankalp' was organised by the party's Jhuggi Jhopri & Unauthorised Colonies Cell.

Over 3,000 active BJP workers living in these colonies participated in the event.

Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari, who presided over the event, while taking a dig at Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government said, "The BJP treats all sections of Delhi residents equally, unlike several other parties which segregate people into vote banks. It is sad that successive state governments since 1998 have denied benefits of development to the jhuggi residents."

Tiwari also criticised the Kejriwal government for levying utility charge of Rs 2 for entry on the DUSIB (Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board) toilet blocks built with the funds sanctioned for free toilets by the Centre, thus letting down the objective to make Delhi free of open defecation.

"A large population of scheduled castes resides in Jhuggi-bastis and they have not only been denied opportunities but also funds meant for them are being misused by the Kejriwal government," alleged Tiwari.

The Bhojpuri actor-turned-politician added, it is sad that at a time when the Centre and civic bodies are working hard to make the place open defecation free, there are hundreds of Delhi government toilet complexes lying useless due to non-existent water and electricity connections.
