In a bizarre incident, a father chopped off the ears of his three-year-old daughter in the early morning on Thursday in East Delhi's GTB enclave area. The man told the police that ghosts had prompted him to take this extreme step. The couple hails from Nepal and had moved to Delhi in 2000 in search for a job. They reside in Tahirpur village in the GTB enclave area.
According to the police, the man Amrit Bahadur chopped off the girl's ear while she was awake. Bina was then rushed to Guru Tegh Bahadur hospital where her condition is stated to be stable. His wife Manju Bahadur, however told police that if they would have not reached in time, the girl would have been killed.
According to Manju, Amrit who works as a vehicle cleaner returned home drunk around 1:30 am on Thursday. She then said that he started behaving in an absurd manner. He started telling his wife that a ghost was directing him to chop his daughter's ears, following which he picked up a knife and first chopped off one ear and then the other.
Neighbours on hearing the child's screams rushed to the house and also informed the police. Bahadur then tried to slit his daughter's throat as well, but before he could do that the police arrived. The child was then rushed to hospital.
Speaking about the case, DCP, Shahdara, Nupur Prasad said, "When family members tried to intervene, he (Bahahdur) kept them at bay and told them that he heard some ghost sounds and was following its directions. A case under section 326 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons), 307 (Attempt to murder) and 23 Juvenile Justice Act has been registered."
Bahadur, who was arrested at the location, told the police that the ghost had told him that his daughter's life would be saved if he made her cry and chopped off her ears. He revealed that it was on the direction of the ghost that he did this. Police officials believe he has hallucination problems.
