Lieutenant Governor (L-G) of Delhi Anil Baijal has asked the Public Works Department (PWD) to improve and bring uniformity in road signages. All the civic agencies have been directed to closely coordinate with each other and implement the identified measures in a time-bound manner so that there is visible progress on the congested traffic corridors.

Baijal chaired the meeting of Task Force on Traffic Management on Friday to review the action points identified for de-congestion of pilot corridors namely Aurobindo Marg (Aurobindo Marg to Andheria More), Mathura Road (Neela Gumbad to Badarpur Flyover), Outer Ring Road (Chirag Delhi Crossing to Savitri Flyover), Sardar Patel Marg, (11 Murti to Rajokari Border) and Dhaula Kuan, (Dhaula Kuan Flyover to GGR Flyover, Sanjay T-Point).

During the discussion, the officials informed that in all these corridors, a number of measures were taken to resolve various choke points such as the work of encroachment of removal, relocation of MCD parking(s), U-turn/FOB/Underpass/Subway for pedestrian movement, removal/shifting of trees, re-structuring/designing of intersections, iron grills on central verges, widening/renovation/construction of roads, shifting of bus stands to more suitable locations, multilevel parkings, road conditions/road signages, escalators at existing subway(s), change of bus routes etc have been identified.

During the discussion, the L-G emphasised that assets already commissioned like FOBs and subways should be well maintained and lighted so as to encourage their usage.

"He also stressed on the need to have better road engineering options like ramp flyovers in stretches like Yusuf Sarai so that vehicular movement can take place without any hindrance to surface-level movement by pedestrians," said a senior government official.

The need of re-engineering and designing of the markets which are located adjacent to the road-sides was also raised.
