A year after a Jawaharlal Nehru University student went missing, police are now probing the whereabouts of another scholar, who went missing from the central university.

Mukul Jain, pursuing PhD from the IGNOU under the supervision of a JNU professor, went missing form the central university recently. Jain used to attend lab number 408 at the JNU's School of Life Sciences. A 'missing poster' was also tweeted by student leader Shehla Rashid today.

Initial reports suggest that Jain was last seen leaving the campus at around 12.30 pm from the East Gate of JNU. According to the Delhi Police, 'JNU day-scholar who was reported missing on January 8, last seen exiting East Gate of the university campus, no violence or academic pressure surfaces in primary probe. Details being looked into.'

Another student had gone missing from a hostel in 2016.

Najeeb Ahmed, 27, a first-year MSc student at JNU, went missing under mysterious circumstances after he allegedly got into an fight with members of the RSS-backed Akhil Bhartiya Vidhyarthi Parishad (ABVP) on the hostel premises around October 14, 2016. The case was handed over to the CBI in May in 2017, after the Delhi police failed to find any breakthrough.

Last year in October, Ahmed's mother Fatima Nafees had held protests outside the CBI headquarters for her missing son.

Hailing from Uttar Pradesh's Badaun district, the family say they have been running from pillar to post for help. And despite financial hardships, they remain resolute in their fight for justice for their missing son.

Nafees, who is known as Ammi amongst all the students at JNU, has now become the face of the "Justice for Najeeb" protests.
