JNU: 1 more sexual harassment charge

A former student of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has accused a faculty member of sexual harassment.

The woman was a student of the department of Social Science, lodged a complaint with the police on Friday, saying she was sexually harassed over a period of time by Ajay Kumar. She said she approached the police when the harassment got unbearable.

DCP Millind Dumebre confirmed the incident and said that the student and the accused are being questioned to ascertain the allegations.

Meanwhile, the JNU Students Union (JNUSU) has demanded immediate action against Kumar. "The JNU administration must also take responsibility for the total breakdown of the institutional redressal to address such matters of sexual violence. It is amply clear that bodies such as the ICC are beyond the scope of providing any justice. They have been packed with the administration's select few," the JNUSU said.
