A jealous husband, who suspected his wife of infidelity, bludgeoned her to death in South Delhi's Neb Sarai area on Thursday morning. The 35-year-old man named Anees was arrested by police later in the day. The couple has three minor children who will be handed over to family members.

Anees told police he doubted his wife Nargis' (30) "character" and thought that "she was going out of his control." Locals revealed that he would often thrash his wife over petty issues and have heated arguments with her. Hours before the murder, the couple was reported to have had a heated argument as well.

Speaking to the wife's family, Nargis's relative Javed revealed that jealous was not the only motive. According to him, Nargis would often argue with Anees because he did not contribute to the expenditure of the family. "I never imagined that the argument would turn so violent as that he would murder her. They would fight every day because Nargis would keep asking him to get a steady job," said Javed.

The police was informed about the incident around 7:44 am on Thursday morning. At first, the body was an unidentified one and was found lying in lane-number 7 close to a church. The body was found wrapped in a blanket and stuffed in a gunny bag. "On inspection of the body multiple sharp and blunt injuries over the head, the left side of the face and on the shoulder were found. A case of murder and destruction of evidence has been registered," said a senior police officer. The body was later identified as that of Nargis and on inquiry it was found out that she is a resident of the Sangam Vihar area.
