Delhi BJP unit chief Manoj Tiwari on Sunday reiterated his demand to introduce an National Register of Citizens (NRC) in the capital, similar to the one implemented in Assam. Tiwari sought that illegal immigrants be identified, evicted and deported to their place of origin.

The BJP leader referred to the recent shoot-out between Delhi police and a gang of foreign nationals while alleging that Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was "protecting Bangladeshis and Rohingyas." The Delhi BJP wants to introduce an Asam-like exercise to identify and deport illegal immigrants in the city, he added.

"CM Kejriwal is protecting Bangladeshis and Rohingyas to destabilise the nation... what a shame.... I also got 2 threat calls from overseas friends of Dubai-returned Kejriwal who is hatching a conspiracy to eliminate me.." he tweeted. On Wednesday, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had alleged that the BJP wanted Kejriwal eliminated, a day after a man flung chilli powder at the Chief Minister outside his office.

This is not the first time the BJP MP has raised the issue of NRC. Earlier this month, Tiwari had made a similar demand, alleging that lakhs of Bangladeshi immigrants were illegally residing in Okhla and his parliamentary constituency of Northeast Delhi.

He had reportedly reached out to Union home minister Rajnath Singh, requesting him to implement the NRC, starting from Okhla Assembly constituency, which according to him, has "the maximum population of Bangladeshis".According to reports, Tiwari had informed Singh about the large number of Bangladeshis illegally residing in areas like Okhla, Seelampur, Jaffrabad, and Mustafabad. Earlier in August, the Delhi BJP had written a letter to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on the issue.
