The central IAS officers' association on Tuesday termed as "criminal" the alleged assault on Delhi Chief Secretary Anshu Prakash and demanded immediate arrest of the perpetrators. The association strongly condemns the assault on Chief Secretary, Delhi, it said. The officers took out a candlelight protest march at Rajghat against the alleged assault on Prakash.

"It's a criminal, cowardly and deplorable act and an assault on the Constitution. We stand by our colleagues in Delhi and demand immediate arrest of the perpetrators of such a shameful act," said the association of Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers. It supported a resolution of the Delhi IAS association and demanded immediate action against the perpetrators involved in the incident.

A total of 5,004 IAS officers are working across the country.

The chief minister's office has dismissed the accusation as "bizarre and baseless".

In a statement issued jointly by the Delhi IAS association; Delhi, Andaman Nicobar Island Civil Services (DANICS) and the Delhi Administration Subordinate Services (DASS), the members alleged that Monday's meeting was called to put pressure on the chief secretary to release publicity material regarding achievements of the AAP government, in violation of the Supreme Court's guidelines.

The association secretary, Manisha Saxena said that when Prakash reached the CM's residence, he was "manhandled" and "mistreated".

"For the past couple of years, officers have been insulted and humiliated in public. The attack on the chief secretary is an attempt to intimidate the bureaucracy to toe the line by the powers that be," she said.

Saxena, however, refused to name the person who exactly attacked the chief secretary. The Union Home Ministry has sought a report from Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal on the alleged assault. "I am deeply pained by the happenings involving the chief secretary of the Delhi government. The civil servants should be allowed to work with dignity and without fear," Home Minister Rajnath Singh said.
