Taking a strict stand against fee hike in private schools, which have been citing the implementation of the Seventh Pay Commission as the reason, the Delhi government has called a meeting of all MLAs and Education Department officials.

The government has also notified Fee Anomaly Committees, in pursuant to the recommendations of the Justice Duggal Committee, constituted by the Delhi High Court. With the notification of these committees, any parent or guardian of a student of any recognised, unaided school, individually or jointly aggrieved by the amount of fees or any other charge being levied by the school, may register a complaint with these committees.

The complaint can be registered with the committee of respective districts in the prescribed proforma, along with a processing fee of Rs 100.

Following several complaints from parents CM Arvind Kejriwal and Deputy CM Manish Sisodia met at the Delhi Secretariat on Wednesday to discuss the matter.

“The CM and his deputy discussed the issue and a meeting of all MLAs and Education Department officials has been called on Thursday,” a senior Delhi government official said.

The Directorate of Education (DoE) had earlier as well written to schools, asking them to refrain from any “unjustified” hike in school fees in the name of implementation of the Seventh Pay Commission recommendations.

“The MLAs will get data regarding complaints against schools that have increased the fees,” the official added.

The fee anomaly committees will examine individual complaints received within 90 days and submit its report to the office, with its definitive findings on the issue referred to it for their disposal with the approval of the director.
