A 21-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide at her house in southeast Delhi's Kalkaji on Tuesday morning. The police said she had been pushed into prostitution by her lover. A suicide note was also recovered, in which she held the man responsible for her death. The accused has been arrested.

The victim was identified as Reshma. According to the police, in the suicide note, she blamed her live-in partner, Neeraj, and raised allegations against him. The man was booked under the Immoral Trafficking Act as well for abetment to suicide.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (southeast) Romil Baaniya said the matter was reported around 5.40 am, when Neeraj called the police control room to inform that Reshma had committed suicide.

The police reached the spot and found Reshma hanging by a ceiling fan. Her body was sent for post-mortem to a nearby hospital. During the search, the suicide note was recovered. Neeraj was detained on the spot and later booked for abetment.

Police said according to the note, Reshma hailed from Amritsar and Neeraj from Badayun in Uttar Pradesh. He worked as a driver here. She and Neeraj had taken a rented accommodation in Delhi. Soon afterwards, however, Neeraj, who was struggling to make ends meet, and pushed Reshma into prostitution. When she resisted, he allegedly tortured her.
