The Delhi Police has arrested the friend and co-worker of the man whose body was found chopped and stored in a refrigerator in South Delhi's Said-Ul-Azaib area. Police officers told DNA that Vipin Joshi's head and torso was cut in two parts and stuffed inside the fridge at his friend Badal Mandal alias Swapan Singra's rented flat in the same area.
Mandal who was the prime suspect in the case told police that he had killed Joshi because he suspected him of having an affair with his wife. Vipin Joshi and Badal Mandal worked together at the FIO Country Kitchen & Bar at the Garden of Five Senses. Joshi had gone missing on October 9 and his body was discovered at Badal's rented flat on October 15. Badal was arrested on Wednesday from Rourkela in Odisha after one of his relatives revealed his location to police officers who were hunting for him.
Initially Badal tried to misguide the investigating officials and tried to conceal his identity but later confessed to the crime. During his interrogation he told police that he had a couple of times seen Joshi enter his house in his absence.
"He suspected his wife of having an illicit affair with Joshi and after seeing Joshi walk out of his house on one occasion he had planned to eliminate him. He planned the murder in such a way that he applied for leave earlier only before killing Joshi so as to no one suspects him of the murder," said a senior police officer.
On the day of the incident Badal took the meat cleaver from the restaurant and took Joshi along with him to his flat where both of them drank alcohol and then later on Badal attacked him. After this, he dragged his body to the washroom and cut it into pieces. He later removed the trays from the fridge and stuffed the pieces of the body inside it. He then went back to the washroom and cleaned it and later fled for his in-laws house in Kolkata.
A team of police officers reached Kolkata, after tracing his mobile, which showed his location to be Purulia village. However, he was not found there. The police team later found him in Rourkela from where he was arrested.
