In a bid to connect residents of Delhi directly to their councillors and to motivate them to maintain cleanliness in their localities, the Municipal Corporations of Delhi (MCD) have launched an outreach programme that follows the Central government’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.

Titled Delhi Hum Sab Ka Ghar, the campaign includes radio spots and outdoor advertisements. The corporations have roped in three radio channels for the purpose — Radio City, Radio Mirchi, and Red FM.

“The 60-day outreach programme has been divided into three parts. Each ward will get 20 days. During the course of the programme, 18-21 radio spots on cleanliness will be played on these stations daily,” North civic body PRO Yogendra Singh Mann said.

Besides, as part of their outdoor campaign, the corporations have come up with innovative ideas, including urging the citizens to be like Mr Swachh (cleanliness) Kumar, instead of being Kooda (garbage) or Thu Thu (spit) Kumar.

Meanwhile, Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) across the city hailed the civic bodies’ efforts to bridge the communication gap between residents and their councillors. “It is a great initiative by the civic corporations. It will give councillors a reality check,” Sandeep Bali, President of the Mehrauli RWA, said.
