A 22-year-old Chinese student was allegedly molested by a florist in south-east Delhi’s Greater Kailash area. The accused, identified as Avinish alias Mahavir, has been arrested. The complainant is in the national Capital as part of a student exchange programme.

According to the police, the LSR student lives in a rented accommodation in Kailash Colony. On February 12, the accused came to her house to sell flower pots. He urged her to buy something as he did not have any money. The student then bought two pots from him.

Later, she spotted Mahavir many times in the area but did not pay much attention. Then, on February 27, he returned to her colony and urged her to buy for him again, but she refused. He then took a flower pot and stood outside her house. Though the victim told him to leave, he kept standing there and then touched her inappropriately.

She then made a PCR call. “Her statement was recorded, following which a case under Section 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of the Indian Penal Code was registered at the Greater Kailash police station,” DCP (south-east) Romil Baaniya said.

Based on the victim’s description, a sketch of the accused was prepared. After questioning nearly 200 florists and gardeners in the area, and carrying out intensive searches, a police officer finally spotted him on Thursday, following which he was arrested.
