FIR against Station House Officer for manhandling woman journalist

A delegation of Indian Women's Press Club had also met Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday and demanded registration of an FIR against the accused police officer.

A case of sexual harassment has been registered against Station House Officer (SHO) of Delhi Cantt, Vidhya Dhar after a woman journalist alleged misbehavior by the cop during a protest march by the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) students on Friday. A delegation of Indian Women's Press Club had also met Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday and demanded registration of an FIR against the accused police officer.

"Based on the findings of the vigilance enquiry, a case under section 354A (Sexual harassment) has been registered at Sarojini Nagar police station. In the interest of fair and impartial probe, SHO Delhi Cantt has been sent to district lines," said Madhur Verma, DCP, PRO. The case has also been transferred to the crime branch.

The woman journalist, in a complaint to the police, informed that Dhar had pushed her and another colleague while they were present at the protest. Even when she told him that they were journalists but later, he again returned and touched her at an inappropriate place. The journalist recorded her statement on Monday with the vigilance branch. Journalists in the national Capital had carried out several protests demanding action against the police officers for misbehaving with journalists during a protest on Friday by the JNU students. The protest in which thousands of JNU students participated led to a clash between police and the students leading to chaos, lathi-charge and water cannons being used .

Videos of the police mismanagement were floating all across the social media.
