The Uttar Pradesh (UP) Police on Monday registered an FIR against yet another Noida-based ‘click advertisement’ company for allegedly duping two lakh people to the tune of Rs 500 crore.

The FIR was filed on the basis of the complaint of Amit Kishore Jain, who runs an insurance company in Ghaziabad, registered in Sector 20 Noida police station. Jain had alleged that a company named Web Work Trade Link Private Limited, located in Sector 2 of Noida, lured people to invest Rs 5,750-57,500 in the company account to avail a good return at the rate of ‘Rs 6 per click’. A username and a password was provided to investors to access the website.

In the last four months, the firm allegedly duped nearly two lakh people and made Rs 500 crore. “This company is fooling people using the modus operandi of click advertisement. I had invested Rs 1,72,500 using three IDs. Initially, they returned some money. But since January, I have received nothing. The company officials even asked me to open Bitcoin accounts, which are not legal in India. They then informed me that there will be no transaction in Indian currency, starting February 1,” Kishore said.

Mohit Garg, another investor, said: “I had invested Rs 37,000 in the company’s programmes. Gradually, the returns started becoming irregular. Later, when I tried to log in, I would get messages that a new website was to be launched. Finally, the returns stopped completely.”

An FIR has now been filed based on Jain’s complaint and the UP Special Task Force (STF) has started a probe into the matter. “Company directors Anurag Garg and Sudesh Varma offered membership to more than four lakh people. We have other such companies on our radar,” UPSTF ASP Triveni Singh said.

DNA tried to contact Garg but his phone remained switched off. Firm employee Pooja Kumar, however, denied all allegations on his behalf. “They are not going anywhere. Anurag sir and Sandesh sir are busy sorting out the changes in the banking system. We had to shut down the company because we were receiving threats from some people. Sir has lodged a complaint in the Sector 20 police station about some men entering our office and breaking some items,” Kumar said.

Meanwhile, in advertisements published in some local Hindi newspapers, the company has announced the closure of its operations till April 20, due to changes in the banking system.

The notice read: “It is being informed that the company is forced to close its permanent operations due to changes in the banking system till April 20.”
