The AAP government has come out with a new directive stating it will now be mandatory for e-rickshaw owners to link their vehicle registration with an Aadhaar card in order to get Rs 30,000 subsidy from the Delhi government.

Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot and Environment Minister Imran Hussain announced this new rule in a meeting on Friday. The meeting was held to review the role of E-rickshaws as eco-friendly and a non-polluting means of public transport in boosting last mile connectivity.

Speaking on the new rule, a senior government officer said. “It is important that the vehicles have due registration and follow the norms. In order to avoid any fake permits and ensure that the subsidy reaches the rightful owners, it was decided that the vehicle registration should be linked to an Aadhaar card.”

The subsidy will be given by the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC). Meanwhile, Gahlot asked the officials to make sure that the GPS device could be connected directly with the battery of the vehicle so that its location could be checked even when the engine is off.
