With the Delhi government announcing the Summer Action Plan of power supply arrangements for the national Capital, the discoms have geared up to meet the demands. The government has projected the peak demand of Delhi at a whopping 7000 MW for the coming summer season.

During the summer season of 2017, the Capital had witnessed an all-time peak demand of 6526MW on June 6. This peak demand was successfully met by the Delhi Transmission and Distribution system.

BSES discoms will get up to 665 MW of power through banking arrangements. Additionally, around 150 MW of renewal energy from Himachal Pradesh and around 20 MW from Rajasthan will further boost the power supply.
In case of unforeseen contingencies because of low generation and outages of power plants, the discoms will purchase short-term power from the exchange.

"During the year, BSES discoms have invested substantial resources to strengthen the network. A large part of the distribution schemes, which were considered necessary to further strengthen the distribution system have already been completed. This has made the distribution network more robust for taking the additional power load during summer months," said a BSES spokesperson.

Similarly, Tata Power Delhi Distribution had exported power up to 300 MW to the states of Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh during the winter of 2017-18 under banking arrangements. The same power shall be returned by these states to Tata Power Delhi Distribution in the summer months of 2018-19.

"We have always strived for providing better services to our consumers. As the Metrological Department has forecast an extremely hot summer, we are expecting the peak power demand to reach 2000 MW in our area. To meet this demand, we have long-term tie-ups amounting to around 2000 MW and other arrangements, up to 300 MW, through power import banking with other states to ensure regular supply & to take care of any contingency requirements," said Praveer Sinha, CEO and MD, Tata Power Delhi Distribution.
