A Class 11 student of a government school was beaten to death allegedly by his classmates outside the campus in northeast Delhi's Jyoti Nagar area on Wednesday afternoon. Police have detained two students and are questioning them.

Gaurav, 17, had come to the school, Rajkiya Bal Vidyalaya, to collect his transfer certificate. He was attacked by his friends, following arguments, when he was sitting in a park.

He lived with his family in Baburpur in the same area. He had recently cleared his Class 10 exam and wanted to pursue higher studies in the commerce stream at some other institute.

"It seems that the boys had an argument last week and also on Wednesday. A call was received around 3:30 pm about the incident. A case of murder has been registered. A hunt for other accused is on," said senior police officer Atul Kumar Thakur.

Gaurav's elder bother, Govinda, confirmed a fight had happened last week as well. "The boys had thrashed him but we did not complain then," he said. A monetary dispute may be the motive.
