Delhi: SMS service to find out if name registered in voters list

In a bid to help eligible Delhiites know if their names are registered in the electoral roll, Delhi's Chief Electoral Office has launched an SMS service facility. As a part of the facility one has to message EPICVoter ID card no to 7738299899 or 1950. One can also check their name in the voters' list on the link www.ceodelhi.gov.in.
 

"Delhiites, who have voter-id card, but are not sure about their names in voter list, can now check the status by sending an SMS to 1950 or 7738299899," said a senior official. Apart from that, people can also call 1950 to check whether their names are in the voter list or not.

"Having voter ID card is not enough. Name in the voters' list is a must to vote," the official said. The Commission also launched a Facebook page wherein people can send their queries, objections and suggestions.

"Also we will update our activities on the Facebook page from time to time and people can post their queries, objections and suggestions. The idea is reach to a larger section of people, especially youth which uses social media rigorously," the official added.
 

Around 1.72 lakh first time voters in the age group of 18 to 19 will be able to exercise their franchise in the upcoming Delhi Assembly polls. As per the electoral roll published today, the total number of voters in the city have been estimated at 1,30,85,251 out which 72,60,633 are men and 58,24,618 are women voters.

According to EC, the young voters population stands at 1.31% of the total electors population in the national capital.
