As Delhi's moneyed citizens, fond of owning multiple cars, indulge in their luxuries, it's the city's pedestrians who bear the brunt. Especially in south Delhi's posh Moti Bagh area, residents are forced to walk on the roads, since most footpaths and service lanes are occupied by these vehicles.

Most houses here have provisions only for one car. But since several house owners own multiple cars, they park on the footpaths, making it difficult for the pedestrians to walk. It's not just the cars, some of the lanes and footpaths have even been encroached upon by booths to house private security guards hired by the residents.

"The illegally parked cars are a headache for the residents. Most of the times, we have to walk on the main roads, which can be dangerous, especially for children and senior citizens," said Jainendra Singh, a resident of South Moti Bagh.

Meanwhile, some residents have also claimed that the presence of colleges in the neighbourhood has worsened the problems. According to them, the students of these colleges, who live in adjoining areas of the Capital, park their cars in front of their gates, and when told to not do so, they even get into fights.
