After a long wait of four years, Delhi government's Deep Chand Bandhu (DCB) hospital got two functional operation theatres (OT) on Monday. The hospital conducted its first cesarean surgery on the same day.
"Of the six OT's, two have been made functional as of now. The aim is to provide services to the patients who come to the hospital every day for treatment. We will start other services in the hospital too at the earliest," said a senior Delhi government official.
Located in North-West Delhi, the hospital was built to cater to the needs of the residents in the area. Apart from this, there is an MCD-run Hindu Rao hospital which is already over-burdened with the patients. Another hospital in the area is Janakpuri super-speciality hospital which, too, is yet to pick up the pace in terms of patient care and treatment.
A report submitted to the Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in April had claimed that of the 183 OTs in 24 government hospitals in the national Capital, 31 are dysfunctional. The OTs have been made functional in Guru Gobind Singh Hospital, Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital, Bhagwan Mahavir Hospital, Lok Nayak Hospital and GB Pant Hospital, so far. Two more OTs will be functional in Deep Chand Bandhu Hospital by June 15, said the government sources.
On May 7, a building had collapsed in North-West Delhi's Gujranwala Town leaving seven labourers injured. Many of them were rushed to Deep Chand Bandhu hospital but had to be referred to Lok Nayak hospital as the OT was not functioning at the former.
A team of officers had visited Deep Chand Bandhu hospital in 2016 where it had reported many loopholes in the functioning of the institute. Essential services like labour room and operation theatre were also lying non-functional at that time, the team had said.
The 200-bed hospital was completed in 2014 at the cost of Rs 92.68 crores.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, in the latest budget, has decided to remodel the hospital and make it a 500-bedded hospital.
