Delhi: Robbers loot Rs 25 lakh from businessman's home

A group of robbers barged into the house of a businessman in East Delhi's Preet Vihar on Thursday night, beat up the family members and held them captive at gunpoint to take away cash and jewellery. The robbers took away valuables and cash worth around Rs 25 lakh. Police are checking the CCTV footages of the area to ascertain their identity.

According to the police, the house belonged to Manmohan Bansal, who owns a hardware shop in Chawri Bazaar. The incident took place at around 2.30 am on the adjoining night of Thursday and Friday when the family was sleeping in the house.

According to the complaint, the family members heard a loud noise and then saw a group of men barging into their house.

"They climbed the wall and had covered their faces. They were carrying arms. Later, they attacked Bansal. They also tied his legs after which he was thrashed. The victim was attacked with rods," a police officer said.

The robbers hit a house help also and tied him up on the terrace.

The locals have alleged that despite holding several meetings with the police regarding the security of the area, nothing has been done by them.

"Last month, we held meetings with the police but they did not listen to our pleas. The dacoits had gained entrance to the house through the railway line and not the main entrance," said a resident.

The latest Delhi Police compendiums of around 1,000 pages have named more than 1,000 active snatchers and robbers in the national Capital. Approximately, 465 active snatchers were named in the compendium, whereas around 576 active robbers were mentioned. The compendium had all the details of the criminals.
