An impromptu dance competition during a religious procession on Valmiki Jayanthi on October 30 had resulted in the murder of a 29-year-old.

A 22-year-old man, who had felt insulted after the victim received more cheering and applause from the crowd at the procession during the dance face-off, had shot his opponent dead.

The victim, identified as Avinash Sangwan, was at the procession near Mandir Marg when another man, identified as Rishab, started dancing. Reportedly, Rishab had also challenged other participants of the procession for a dance face-off. Sangwan had responded to the challenge with an impromptu dance battle.

However, when the participants started cheering for Sangwan for his dance, Rishab took it as an insult to himself. When Rishab started a heated argument with Sangwan over the same, the other participants intervened and told Rishab to leave the procession.

However, Rishab came back and shot Sangwan dead.

Sangwan was taken to the nearby RML hospital where he was declared brought dead by the doctors.

"The biggest problem that the police faced during the investigation of the murder case was that there was no eye witness to the murder. No one heard a gun shot or see Rishab shooting at Sangwan. Some videos, which were shot by the other participants at the procession, helped the police team nab the accused," said Madhur Verma, DCP, New Delhi area.

The police team had traced the participants of the procession, examined several videos shot by them and found that a man was carrying a country-made pistol, under his belt.

The screen shot of the video was later printed and distributed to different police stations. Forty-fine areas in national capital were marked to nab the accused.

The accused was found hiding in Vijay Vihar, from where he was arrested, and on his instance his cousin brother Chaitanya was also arrested.

While Chaitanya is a student of Delhi University, Rishab was earlier a courier boy but presently was unemployed and was in contact with the criminals in his area.
