The Delhi Traffic police relaunched its 'Traffic Sentinel' mobile application on Tuesday. The app which will allow the public to report traffic offences occurring on the Capital's roads, has been revamped taking into account feedback received by the Traffic Police Department after a year long observation.

While relaunching the scheme, Special Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Ajay Kashyap said, "We have been monitoring the issues with the older version of the application and with the cooperation of Nation Informative Centre (NIC) we have been able to bring a better and user friendly version of the application."

The mobile app was first launched in December 2015 and urged people to become 'Traffic Sentinels' by allowing users to report traffic violations by uploading photos and videos of the offences.

The updated version of the app has had a few modifications. Police found that the major complaint was often that the Traffic Sentinel had limited net connectivity, and hence, complaints could not be registered. The updated version of the application now saves the complaint in offline mode and once the handset gets internet connection, it will upload the complaint to the police headquarters. Moreover, a user can keep a check on his/her reward points and the status of pending complaints.

Kashyap added "A reward system will also be a part of the scheme to motivate citizens to come forward. For each photograph or video uploaded, the user will get an acknowledgement and a unique transaction number. Later, if the offence and the vehicle number is cleared in the photograph/video, reward points will be allocated to the sender."

Once the Traffic Sentinel gets a number of reward points, he or she will be intimated through an email. Once a minimum number of points are accrued, he or she will be entitled to a prize.
