Delhiites' wait for the IP Extension-Trilokpuri route of Metro's Pink Line has been extended once again as the corridor has missed its scheduled deadline of being launched in August 2018. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is hoping to launch it by December 2018 now.

The route, which is part of the new line being opened in a phased manner, has already the jumped previous deadline of June. It was scheduled to be launched in June earlier, few months after the first section of the Pink corridor- Majlis Park-Durgabhai Deshmukh South Campus was opened in March, this year. The Lajpat Nagar-South Campus section, too, was to become operational in June.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, meanwhile, is completing its final stages to initiate a trial run between the IP Extension and Trilokpuri. Construction work on this part of the Mukundpur-Shiv Vihar section is almost over."We have started trials for the IP Extension to Shiv Vihar but it is yet to get running on the reverse route, that is Shiv Vihar to IP Extension due to some reasons," said a Metro official.

The reason is the land acquisition in Trilokpuri area that has been a major obstacle in the speedy completion of the Metro's Pink corridor. The DMRC is still trying to rehabilitate over 105 families in Trilokpuri area having the residence on this very 4 km long stretch. The rehabilitation space provided by the government can accommodate around 66 families, leaving the rail body with no choice but to demand more land for the same.

As a result, Trilokpuri Metro station will not be linked with Mayur Vihar Pocket-I. The trial runs can commence only after these two Metro stations are connected. "We are in the process of commercial running between Trilokpuri-Shiv Vihar and Mayur Vihar Pocket-I-Lajpat Nagar till the matter is sorted with the locals. Hopefully, it will be done soon and we will be able to start a trial run in July, and then open the section between IP Extension-Trilokpuri to the public by the year-end," the official said.
