Boosting connectivity further between South and south-west parts of the Capital, the 25.6-kilometre long Janakpuri West-Kalkaji Mandir Metro corridor will become operational from May 29. It will be formally flagged off by Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs (Independent Charge) Hardeep Singh Puri and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on May 28 from the Nehru Enclave Metro station.

Passenger services on the stretch will begin at 6 am on Friday from Kalkaji Mandir and Janakpuri West stations, simultaneously. This section, comprising 16 stations, will be the longest operation stretch in Delhi Metro's Phase 3, so far. With the opening of this stretch, the entire 38.2-kilometre long Janakpuri West – Botanical Garden Magenta corridor covering the city's arterial Outer Ring Road will become operational.

The corridor holds special significance with two new interchange facilities coming up at Janakpuri West (with the Dwarka – Noida/Vaishali Blue Line) and Hauz Khas (with the HUDA City Centre – Samaypur Badli Yellow line). The domestic terminals of the Indira Gandhi International Airport will also get directly connected by the Metro. The new interchange will also reduce travel time for commuters travelling from Gurugram as they will be able to change trains at Hauz Khas to reach south Delhi and Noida. The expected time of travel is being pegged at 50 minutes. Meanwhile, Noida residents will have the advantage of direct connectivity to the domestic terminal of the airport.

This corridor will cover as many as 16 stations. These include-Janakpuri West, Dabri Mor, Dashrathpuri, Palam, Sadar Bazar, Terminal 1 – IGI Airport, Shankar Vihar, Vasant Vihar, Munirka, RK Puram, Hauz Khas, IIT, Panchsheel Park, Chirag Delhi, GK Enclave, Nehru Enclave. Of the 25.6-kilometre long section, 23 kilometres are underground and the rest is elevated.
