Travelling by Delhi Metro? You might want to check the weight of your luggage or bag. Mind you if it crosses over 15 kg, you will not be allowed to travel on the metro.

Commuters from March will have to be careful to not carry baggage over 15 kg as they will be barred from using Delhi Metro at selected 20 stations.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said that the commuters are not allowed to carry baggage heavier than 15 kg and its dimensions are fixed at 60 cm length, 45 cm width and height not more than 25 cm.

"This is being done to ensure adherence to norms of baggage size allowed as per operations and maintenance Act of DMRC and inputs from the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF)," DMRC spokesperson was quoted as saying by TOI.

The DMRC has already installed U-shaped metal barriers placed in front of baggage screening machines to detect the weight of your luggage. The move is already in place in these stations - Chandni Chowk, Kashmere Gate, Barakhamba Road, Anand Vihar and Shahdara.

The other stations which will comply to the new rule are Adarsh Nagar, Azadpur, Badarpur, Botanical Garden, Chawri Bazar, Dilshad Garden, Govindpuri, HUDA City Centre, Inderlok, Karol Bagh, Lal Quila, Nangloi, R K Ashram Marg, Rithala and New Delhi.

"As of now, we are not returning passengers with oversized baggage from the five stations where the barriers have been installed. Such baggage is checked physically by our personnel. We are trying to educate and inform commuters at present so that they don't travel with oversized baggage," the DMRC official added.

Meanwhile, Bengaluru Metro charges Rs 30 per kg from passengers if their baggage weights more than 15 kg.
