According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Rahul, while his brother has been identified as Naveen. The two had gone to smoke cigarettes at 2:30 am on Sunday.
A man was stabbed to death while his cousin was injured after a quarrel with a group of four persons including a minor for asking where they could find cigarettes in the Vijay Vihar area of Rohini district. The police have arrested the four.
According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Rahul, while his brother has been identified as Naveen. The two had gone to smoke cigarettes at 2:30 am on Sunday.
"After walking a few metres away from their house, they saw the four accused who were in an intoxicated state and asked them where they could find cigarettes. Suddenly one of the four started abusing them and a scuffle broke out between them," said a senior police officer.
One of four accused stabbed Rahul and later stabbed Naveen who came to save him. The accused left them and fled the spot.
"A police control room call was made about the stabbing of two brothers in the Vijay Vihar area at 3 am. The police reached the spot. Both injured were rushed to the hospital where the doctors declared Rahul as dead and Naveen as critical," said a senior police officer.
A case was registered against the four and they were arrested from the locality.
"The accused have been identified as Nitin, Praveen, Ravi and a juvenile. They have been arrested under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code," said a senior police officer.
According to the DCP, the two cousins were employed at the Jawaharlal Nehru University. "The deceased worked on an ad-hoc basis in the malaria department of JNU. His injured cousin Naveen is a lab assistant at the university", said the officer, adding that Rahul lived in the Old JNU Campus with his family.
