The accused, identified as Jitender alias Jeetu ( 29), a resident of Narela, was involved in the sensational case of cash van robbery cum double murder in the Vardhman Mall area on April 26.
The Special Cell arrested a criminal wanted in several cases of murder and robbery at the Narela area on August 11 on Thursday. One sophisticated pistol along with five live bullets and one motorcylce have been recovered from him, the police said.
The accused, identified as Jitender alias Jeetu ( 29), a resident of Narela, was involved in the sensational case of cash van robbery cum double murder in the Vardhman Mall area on April 26. Three bike-borne robbers had looted the cash van after shooting the gunman and cashier and decamped with around Rs 12 lakh cash A Special Cell team had arrested Bharat Bhushan alias Tony, Deepak and Vikas after a brief encounter on May 2. However, accused Jeetu was absconding. A cash reward of Rs 1 lakh was declared on his arrest, Sanjeev Kumar Yadav, DCP (Special Cell) said.
On August 11, the Special Cell team received an information that Jeetu would be coming near NDPL office at Narela to meet some of his associates on a white-coloured motorcycle in the wee hours. Accordingly, the team laid a trap. At 4.30 am, Jeetu was spotted, but as the team tried to apprehend him, he sped away. After a chase of about 10 kilometres, the cops intercepted him at the Goga Dairy area. Jeetu tried to escape on foot leaving his bike behind and in the process, he whipped out one sophisticated pistol and tried to fire at the police team but was overpowered, the DCP said.
On interrogation, Jeetu revealed that he is a school dropout and has studied till class 8. He worked as a tractor driver before being arrested in an extortion case in 2014. Then he came an contact with Bharat and committed several crimes. Following the arrest of his associates after the cash van robbery cum murder, he was hiding in Uttar Pradesh to evade arrest, the police said.
