Delhi cops nab arms dealer with Rs 1 lakh bounty on him

According to police, the accused has been identified as Jeetu Sharma,who has supplied more than 250 pistols in Delhi in the past five years

The Special Cell of Delhi Police arrested a notorious arms supplier who was carrying a reward of Rs 1 lakh from Indraprastha Park bus stop on the Outer Ring Road a week ago.

According to police, the accused has been identified as Jeetu Sharma,who has supplied more than 250 pistols in Delhi in the past five years. Police received a tip-off about the whereabouts of Sharma as he regularly used to come to Delhi to supply arms and ammunition.

"We had been trying to nab him for the past four months. On January 5, we received information that he would visit Delhi. A trap was laid and he was nabbed. Four sophisticated English pistols of .32 bore and 50 cartridges of same caliber were recovered from his possession," said PS Kushwah, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell).

During interrogation, Sharma revealed that he was part of an illegal arms syndicate. He further disclosed that he has been supplying sophisticated illegal arms to criminals in Delhi and adjoining states. Sharma told the police that he had smuggled more than 250 pistols into the Capital since 2012.

"Sharma was also wanted in a case registered by Special Cell last year where they found him to be involved in supply of seven pistols. Following this, the Delhi Police had kept a reward of Rs 1 lakh for his arrest," Kushwah added

Sharma used to source arms from Madhya Pradesh and Agra. One pistol was priced at Rs 10,000 and he used to further sell these pistols for Rs 20,000 to Rs 25,000 per pistol, police said.

Police said Sharma has been previously involved and arrested in cases under the Arms Act, Attempt to murder and robbery in Uttar Pradesh. He told police that he entered into the crime world five years ago.

In 2014, he along with his associate committed a robbery in bus of UP Roadways. They looted the money bag of bus conductor. After that he came into contact with one Anil Kumar and started smuggling arms and ammunition, said the police.
