The Special Cell of the Delhi Police has arrested an African national for possessing two kilograms of heroin worth Rs 8 crore. The accused has been identified as Ezekiel Success Chinedu alias Sunny (33) who used to reside in the Capital's Guru Nanak Nagar, Sant Garh, the police said on Friday.

A police team found out that the accused Sunny was going to supply a big consignment of heroin to drug dealers from Haryana after which they launched an operation to trap him.

"The accused was to meet the drug dealers from Haryana in west Delhi's Vikaspuri. After a brief scuffle, we were able to catch him. A search of his bag led to the recovery of 2 kilograms of high grade heroin," said a senior police officer.

The police also recovered three mobile handsets and various SIM cards used in drug trafficking. A case under appropriate sections of law has been registered at the Special Cell police station and a probe has been launched.

It was revealed during interrogation that Sunny was living in the country "illegally" while his visa had expired in July 2015.

"He had come on a three month tourist visa but continued to stay here illegally. On his arrival in Delhi, he started staying with a fellow Nigerian namely Okaji Baju and they worked together to supply drugs. Sunny initially worked as a carrier for Baju, but gradually developed his own network of drugs supply to dealers in Haryana and Punjab," the officer said.
