The Aam Aadmi Party at Hanuman road in Delhi’s Connaught Place was swamped with party workers and supporters out to celebrate the debutant party’s stellar showing in the Delhi Assembly Elections. Roads leading to the AAP office were blocked from both the ends as the number of people gathered to celebrate swelled to thousands by noon.

After the sixth five round, AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal was poised to win the New Delhi constituency seat. Kejriwal, who had openly challenged three-term chief minister Sheila Dikshit, was leading with a margin of about 8,000 votes.

Chants of “Jhadu” and “Ab jhadu chalegi” filled the air as senior AAP leaders monitored the progress of results as counting continued. A senior leader would periodically update the waiting public from the AAP office balcony on the latest count.

Not just “topiwalas” but youngsters, autorickshaw drivers, cleaners, housewives, middle-aged men and people from all walks of society are dancing and celebrating outside the office. A lot of people were also seen distributing sweets.
