Delhi: Activists, volunteers come together to know more about trees

Volunteers were divided into 3 teams who moved around the area measuring and documenting the trees and placing posters along the way to stop the trees from cutting.

Activists and volunteers from all around Delhi gathered in a small park in Netaji Nagar on Tuesday evening with the purpose of conducting a survey on trees around the locality under the guidance of Padmavati Dewvedi.

"We want to have a realistic data of our own regarding the trees because we cannot rely on the data given by the NBCC or the government," said Devalina, 57, who actively motivated volunteers and surveyed the area.

Volunteers were divided into 3 teams who moved around the area measuring and documenting the trees and placing posters along the way to stop the trees from cutting. At the end of the survey, they got back to gather the data and were provided information about the various trees by activists. "I feel so close to nature right now and I will definitely take more active participation in the issue now as I fully understand how important it is to save these trees," said Bharat, 28, who was there to volunteer in the survey.

"We want the government to include the citizens in the plan making process and not just throw at us the already made decisions," said Juhi, 40, who was one of the main organisers of the survey.

BEING RELASTIC

One of the activist who actively motivated the volunteers to conduct this survey on trees around the locality said as they want to have a realistic data regarding the trees because they cannot rely on the data given by the NBCC or the government
