Dancer turned to robbery to splurge lavishly on girlfriends

The accused, identified as Adnan Khan, also took part in several TV dancing shows.

A well-known dancing sensation who also owns an active YouTube channel, and is familiar in Capital's club culture, landed in the Delhi Police custody on Monday, for his alleged involvement in a robbery at a pizza outlet in Dwarka.

Police said the accused wanted to splurge money on his girlfriends and therefore hatched the plan of robbery. The accused, identified as Adnan Khan alias Addi, also took part in several TV dancing shows, including Dance India Dance, Jhalak Dikhla Ja and Nach Baliye. He even got an offer for a role in a Hindi movie.

According to the police, it was on December 11, 2017, when one Amit Yadav, manager at a Domino's Pizza outlet in Dwarka Sector-12, had reported that some unidentified persons with knives had barged into the store around 3:30 am and robbed around Rs 3.5 lakh.

DCP Dwarka, Shibesh Singh said that following a probe, one person identified as Ram was arrested and sent to jail. "The interrogation of Ram revealed that four persons were involved in this case and one of them is a dancer of a club, who was roped in as he did not have any previous criminal record. Accordingly, many informers were deployed and CCTV recordings were analysed. Traps were also laid at several places during the drive to zero down on the accused," Singh said.

It was finally on Sunday that a specific information was received that one accused namely Adnan would come to a bus stand at Dwarka Mor. He was spotted and arrested. The DCP added that it was during questioning that Adnan revealed his involvement in the crime.

"A class 10 dropout, Adnan is the son of a mechanic. He started taking dance classes at an early age and also started a YouTube channel to display his dance performances. He also took part in several TV dancing shows. In 2014, he won 'Mr Uttarakhand' dance competition. Due to the fame, he was very popular among girls and to earn the money he started dancing in Delhi's clubs and restaurants," Singh said.

However, since he could not earn enough, he had to drop a film offer. In order to overcome the financial crunch, he hatched the robbery plan, police said, adding that efforts are being made to arrest his other accomplices.

OUTLET ROBBED 

According to the police, it was on December 11, 2017, when one Amit Yadav, manager at a Domino’s Pizza outlet in Dwarka Sector-12, had reported that some unidentified persons with knives had barged into the store around 3:30 am. The robbers allegedly robbed around Rs 3.5 lakh from the store.
