On the 127th birth anniversary of Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar, his followers proclaimed that they will root out the NDA rule in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. All the major Ambedkarite organisations gathered at the Parliament Street to celebrate Ambedkar Jayanti on Saturday. Unnao and Kathua rape cases were also highlighted during the event.

Thousands of people chanted slogans for their leader, who also was the principal architect of the Constitution of India. More than fifty Dalit organisations, along with several Buddhist organisations came together here from different regions of the country.

Most of them claimed that the atrocities against the minority communities were increasing with every day under BJP-ruling government at the Centre. A leader of Dalit Shoshan Mukti Morcha (DSMM) told DNA that sixty-eight organisations have come in their support against the Anti-Dalit BJP rule. He added that the BJP was doing a propaganda by showing concerns for the marginalised communities, including Dalits.

"Today, the big leaders of the BJP will go and garland Baba Saheb, which we all know is nothing but a huge propaganda by them. The BJP's mask of 'Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas' has already been exposed, we all have seen how they manipulate people over caste and religion for votes. We will make sure that they don't win the 2019 Lok Sabha elections," he added. A student from JNU, Rita Kumar, who is also an activist, told DNA, "Women, not even babies, are safe under the current government. The 8-year-old girl, who was raped and murdered in J&K hasn't been given justice yet. Father of the Unnao girl, who had been raped, was killed in police custody. After all this, what can you expect from them?" she asked.

The celebration of Ambedkar's birth anniversary was politically more charged due to the Bharat Bandh protests going on around the country against the Supreme Court's order of dilution of the SC/ST Act.
