Police suspected that the two had rich businessmen in posh localities as their clients
The arrest of a couple in relation to a gang rape case opened up a can of worms for the Delhi Police on Monday when it was revealed that the two were, in fact, operating a sex racket with its tentacles in various locations of Delhi-NCR.
According to the police, they received a tip-off that a person named Gaurav Anand and his associate Nina Soni alias Sonu Bangalan alias Ameena Khatoon will come to the Garhi village in south-east Delhi on Monday. Both of them are residents of Madhu Vihar area in Delhi and are proclaimed offenders in a gang rape case registered against them at the Shahdara police station.
"Based on the tip-off, an Anti-Auto Thefts Squad team of the south-east district raided the identified place and they were arrested. During the interrogation, they revealed that they have been running a sex racket in the city," DCP (south-east) Romil Baaniya said.
It is suspected that the two had rich businessmen in posh localities and hotels of the Capital as their clients, police said.
According to the officer, Gaurav revealed that he used to work as a driver at a call center. After a few weeks, he was fired for demanding more salary. "He then had an altercation with his wife and left his home. Later, he came in contact with Sonu Bangalan and started living with her. Bangalan was already running a call girl racket and Gaurav joined her business," the DCP said.
Sonu Bangalan, a native of West Bengal, was abandoned by her husband after she gave birth to their second child. She then came to Delhi and started living with one Atul Soni and got involved in the business of providing call girls. "When she came in contact with Gaurav, she left Soni and started living with Gaurav. So far, she has been found involved in three cases. Efforts are on to identify their other accomplices," police said.
