Weeks ahead of the Independence Day, the Delhi Police are all set to revive its operation 'Black Rose', which was last put into effect years ago, to keep a check on possible terror strikes in the national Capital.

The directions to revive the operation "Black Rose" were given by Commissioner of Police, Amulya Patnaik, during a crime review meeting held last week.

As part of the Red Alert scheme, operation Black Rose was first launched two decades ago but was never practiced consistently.

Under the operation, if a terrorist or a criminal tries to escape, a message is flashed on the wireless, and immediately multiple agencies swing into action and try all possible means to nab the target.

The agencies include Special Cell, Special Branch, district police, police control room, commandos, and various other wings of the Delhi Police.

Police officers believe it to be one of their most successful operations, in terms of speed, calculations, time, and strategic movement.

The last time that the operation was a success was years back, when some criminals had opened fire in south Delhi's Greater Kailash area.

Immediately, a Black Rose message was flashed on the wireless sets, sending the security personnel into a tizzy.

The criminals' vehicle was finally located and forced into a road with a dead end. All of them were apprehended.

Then nearly two years ago, Black Rose was carried out as a mock drill in south Delhi malls.

A senior police officer said the operation is carried out in terror-related cases or sensational crime situations.

"We are planning to continue with the operation even after the Independence Day and to make it a part of our routine," a senior police officer said.
