A Delhi Police head constable was critically injured after a speeding two-wheeler rammed into him while he was deployed on picket duty in East Delhi's Geeta colony area in the early hours on Sunday. While one of the accused was arrested from the location, two others riding pillion managed to escape.

According to the police, the incident took place around 1:30 am on Sunday when head constable Pramod, who is posted at Geeta Colony police station, was stationed at one of the barricades near Geeta Colony cremation ground when 20-year-old Taufeeq was riding a scooty along with two of his friends riding pillion. The barricades were placed in a 'Z' shape and one of the police officials even signalled it to stop as they were triple riding and were without a helmet.

Instead of stopping, the youth abused him and threatened to drive over Pramod. But, Pramod stood firm at his place to stop them. That is when the scooty rammed into him.

Pramod sustained injuries on his face, chest and hands and is undergoing treatment at a hospital.

"The scooty driver was speeding and despite warning, he deliberately hit the head constable. Police staff at the barricade managed to catch the driver when he tried to escape after falling," said a cop.

"The driver was not under influence of alcohol. He claimed that he along with his friends were on the joy ride and returning home in the Jama Masjid area. The scooty driver and other two pillion rider who are on run have been booked under IPC section 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide) and 353 (assault to deter public servant from discharge of his duty),"the cop added.
