Cold forces schools in Noida, Ghaziabad to reopen late after Xmas break

Administration orders schools in these areas to reopen on Jan 10, instead of Jan 4

District administrations of Gautam Buddha Nagar and Ghaziabad on Friday have extended the closure of schools due to cold weather till January 10. The order applies to students from nursery to Class VIII.

"The leaves were till fourth but the weather conditions have just got worse so all schools affiliated to boards like CBSE, ICSE and UP government will remain closed until the 10th of this month. Schools will remain closed till January 10 now and reopen on January 11. Classes from nursery to Class VIII will remain closed during this time," said Gautam Buddha Nagar district magistrate B N Singh,

According to a senior official, if any of the schools are found open during this period action will be taken against the management.

"The order is applicable to all schools in Gautam Buddha Nagar District and if any school does not follow those orders we shall take strict action," Singh added.

In Ghaziabad too, the district administration ordered the closure of all government and private schools for another six days from Friday. "All schools have been asked to suspend classes from primary wing to Class VIII till January 4 due to cold conditions," said Ritu Maheshwari, district magistrate of Ghaziabad.

However, most schools in Gautam Buddha Nagar and Ghaziabad are already shut for the winter vacation since Christmas and they are expected to open only on January 15. Some schools will reopen on January 11.

On Thursday, Noida recorded the minimum temperature at eight degrees Celsius and maximum at 20 degrees Celsius.
