Though girls outperformed boys in the CBSE Class XII examinations yet again, in the Capital, Shagun Goyal emerged to be the city topper, scoring 98.8 per cent marks.
A student of the Delhi Public School in RK Puram, he also topped the science stream in the national Capital. "I did not follow any study routine but I always concentrated on whatever we were being taught in classes," the 17-year-old said.
An aspiring computer expert, Goyal will now pursue computer science from the Frankfurt University in the United States. "I have got a full scholarship to pursue my dream there," he said. On being asked why he chose to study abroad, he said: "You don't get that kind of flexibility in choosing subjects here."
According to his parents, he was always an active child. "You will find him doing something all the time. He is always into everything, be it sports or extra curricular activities. Also, he was the head boy of his school. We are so proud that he managed to score so well," his mother Vandana Goyal said.
Goyal, however, shared the position with another student, Ojaswi Malik, who also scored 98.8 per cent. Ojaswi, a humanities student, said she wants to pursue Economics (H) from the Delhi University (DU). Her top choices were St Stephen's and Sri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC).
"After the Class X results came, I had opted for science. But within two weeks, I changed my mind and took humanities. I just felt there were more avenues for humanities students." Malik has also been offered a full scholarship to study Economics at the Hong Kong University.
