A Chinese employee working for Oppo, on Monday, tore the Indian flag and threw it in a dustbin at the Sector 63 office of the mobile manufacturer, triggering a protest by other workers, who were joined by the members of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), a day later. As many as 200 policemen had to be deployed in the factory as hundreds of employees and VHP members started a protest against the company, demanding the arrest of the Chinese citizen. The residents of the area also joined in the protest and some of them could be seen waving the Tricolour from their rooftops.

"Each and every corner of the office is under camera surveillance and we have told the police to scan the footage. We cannot tolerate any disrespect of our national flag," Vineet Arya, a protester, said.

Meanwhile, an Oppo India spokesperson said: "We are taking the entire incident very seriously. Most of our employees are Indian and we have great respect towards this country and its culture. We will take appropriate action depending on the results of the investigation."

Protesters said the Chinese national took down the Indian flag pasted on a wall and dumped it in a dustbin. They then lodged an internal complaint but when no action was taken, they decided to stage a protest. The protesters dispersed when senior officers of the district administration reached the spot and assured them of appropriate action. The Oppo office, meanwhile, remained shut on Tuesday and employees were told to resume work on Wednesday evening.

"A case of disrespecting the national flag has been filed on the basis of a complaint filed by the company employees. We have not arrested anyone yet and the investigation is in progress. Action will be taken after a thorough probe. We are in touch with the company employees," Dharmendra Singh, Senior Superintendent of Police, Gautam Buddha Nagar, said.
