The South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) on Wednesday organised a workshop for as many as 1,000 teachers to help them adopt digital modes of payment. It was the corporation’s first step towards educating society about cashless transactions.
During the workshop, teachers were taught about several means of digital transactions, including debit, credit and prepaid cards, UPI, USSB, Aadhar-enabled payment systems and electronic wallets, among others. Also, their doubts regarding cashless transactions were clarified.
According to SDMC officials, fast transmission of information was the major idea behind involving teachers initially. “Teachers can communicate the essence of cashless transactions to students, who will definitely make a reference of the same in the family and society,” said SDMC Mayor Shyam Sharma.
“Demonetization and the fight against black money will help establish a clean economy. This will benefit the country and people at large. This result-oriented workshop will inspire teachers to disseminate the message of the need of cashless transactions in the present context,” said Standing Committee Chairman Shalinder Singh Monti.
The teachers also welcomed the move, saying it will help them adopt a smart way of life. “The use of new technology looks difficult in the beginning but the ease of technology ensures a smart way of life,” said a teacher who attended the workshop.
Earlier in the day, the Delhi Tourism had also issued an official order to make a push for cashless transactions. “The corporation will make all payments to employees, contractors and stakeholders for salary, excise, rentals and procurement of goods and services through digital mode only. We are taking all precautions and actions to ensure that we can smoothen the life of consumers and citizens of Delhi,”said Delhi Tourism Minister Kapil Mishra.
The department has also announced to issue prepaid Suvidha cards to its employees, instead of cash, for payment of contingency or imprest advance, among others.
As many as 184 swipe machines, including 159 swipe machines for liquor vends, and 20 at other units/divisional offices/project offices, would be required to serve the purpose. Also, 45 POS machines — 25 at liquor vends and 20 at other officers/projects — would be installed and made functional by December 22, 2016, the corporation officials said.
