In a tragic twist of fate, Abhishek Kashyap, who had dreams of becoming a policeman someday, lost his life due to the negligence of policemen.

Family members say that last year, during the physical trials for the recruitment in Delhi Police, Kashyap failed to qualify by just a minute's difference in the running trials. And now, after his death, the family's dream of seeing Abhishek in uniform shall never come true.

Speaking about the 'khaki' dreams of the deceased, Rohit, Abhishek's cousin, said that he had always been intolerant towards crime and often discussed how policing or administration could be strengthened.

"Abhishek used to hold long discussions with me and his neighbour Sonu. He would talk about his passion (to join the police force)," Rohit recalled. He added that Abhishek had not lost hope, and dreamt of qualifying this year.

The deceased youth is survived by his mother, 16-year-old sister Priyanka, and 12-year-old brother Kannu, both of whom are in school. His father, Sanjeev, was a driver by profession and Abhishek often used to help by filling in for him.

Recalling the horror, Priyanka Kashyap said they got a call around 2 am informing them about the accident.

"When we reached the hospital, we realised that his neck had been slit with a wire that some policemen had tied between two barricades. He had injuries on his head, too. It is a case of sheer negligence and carelessness. Those cops should be booked for murder, although that will not make up for our loss," she said.

Venting her anger on the callousness of the police that claimed her son's life, Abhishek's mother Sumita Kashyap said, "Aaj mera beta mara hai, kal jab kisi ameer ka beta jayega, tab ye police kuch karegi," (Today my son has died, but action will be taken only when a rich person loses his son).

She added that with her son gone, the family is in ruins."Nothing worse could have happened to us. I will die without him. How can the police be so negligent?"
