A 45-year-old businessman was shot dead outside his factory by unidentified men in Hindon Vihar area of Sihani Gate in Ghaziabad on Wednesday night. Police have registered an FIR against seven people, including two unnamed.

According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Rajeev Chauhan, who ran a chrome-plating factory in Hindon Vihar area. The incident took place at around 9:30 pm when the deceased was heading back home after completing work.

"Locals spotted him lying in a pool of blood on the road and made a call to the police control room. Police reached the spot and rushed Chauhan to Yashoda hospital," said a senior police officer.

Officials at the Yashoda hospital said that he was brought to the hospital at around 10:15 pm and had a bullet injury in his forehead. He later succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

Police informed the family members of the deceased, who alleged that Chauhan was shot dead by some of his former employees.

"Due to some work, Chauhan had gone to the factory in Hindon Vihar area in the evening and later at night, we received a call from the other workers of the factory about the incident. We suspect that three former workers of the factory along with their family members might have committed the crime as three of them had been threatening Chauhan after he sacked them from the job," said Vipul Chauhan, deceased's son.

Further, Vipul said that the three along with their family members had been demanding money from his father and used to stop him midway and even came to their house sometimes, regarding the issue.

Based on the complaint filed by the family members of the deceased, the police have registered an FIR under section 302 (Murder) and other relevant sections against five named people of a family and two unnamed.

"We are scanning the CCTV footages of the area and are investigating the case from all angles. We have formed a team to check on the allegations made by the deceased's family," said a senior police officer.
