Thousands of patients in the Capital are waiting to get treatment in Delhi government hospitals. Government hospitals, being overburdened, are forced to put the patients on the waiting list.

"We are extremely happy with the step. There are few departments in the hospitals which are catering to more patients than they can handle. This move will take some of the burden off them and the patients can also be treated soon," said Dr Punita Mahajan, medical superintendent, Baba Saheb Ambedkar hospital.

Meanwhile, the leader of the Opposition in the Delhi Assembly Vijender Gupta, on Tuesday, said that the workshop on the launch of free surgery at private hospitals in the city, announced by the AAP government, was yet another aimless initiative to distract public attention from its continuous failures in the health sector.
