Following the rescue of the 50-year-old women who was found trapped in the terrace by her brother and sister-in-law, the Delhi police have arrested both the accused and booked the couple under appropriate sections of Indian Penal Code.

Both the accused have been identified as Sunil and his wife Anupoorna were arrested from their residence following a complaint by Delhi Commission of Women (DCW), where the commission for women had alleged that the couple had restricted 50-year-old women to a small room and terrace, and the victim was even not allowed to meet his another brother Naresh, who lives in the same building but on the different floor.

"We saw the woman sitting in her urine and excreta. We also found that she was given one piece of bread in four days," DCW chairperson Swati Maliwal said.

"It is very unfortunate that such a case has been reported. Police should take strict action otherwise it would set a bad example in front of them who would think it is okay to treat you sisters badly," Maliwal added.

The incident came into light when Naresh called DCW and reported that his sister was being ill treated by is brother and sister-in-law and because of property dispute he was not even allowed to meet his sister.
Following which a team of DCW along 14 policemen rescued the starving women.

"I am deeply shocked at the inhuman manner in which the lady has been treated. She is only 50 years, but she looks as though she is over 90. Her starvation is so extreme that she was unable to look after her basic needs," said Maliwal.

The couple however argued that the victim has been dealing with mental issues and did not allow anyone to come near her.
