Ameen Khan, a blind Northern Railways employee, who runs a family of two, including a 6-year-old son, is struggling to get an FIR registered in Outer Delhi. The blind man has alleged that he was duped of more than Rs 5 lakh by one of his neighbours, on the pretext of borrowing money for his daughter's wedding.

The victim has claimed that the police have not registered an FIR despite receiving the complaint.

Talking to DNA, Khan said it was in December last year when one man, whom he identifies as Nizamuddin, approached him through a mutual acquaintance seeking financial help to marry off his daughter. "Listening to his ordeal, I agreed to help him, but only through a formal contract. The man I knew also became a witness in the matter and guaranteed to return the money soon. A contract was signed and I lent Nizamuddin Rs 2.4 lakh," said Khan, a sanitation worker in Northern Railways, who stays in Delhi with his wife, also blind, and a son.

Khan further alleged that after about a week, the man again approached him and asked for more money, stating medical reasons for the requirement of cash. "I gave him Rs 3 lakh more and a contract was signed. But it was on March 28, this year, that he fled with his family and my money. The man I knew said that Nizamuddin sustained a heart attack, which was fake. In this regard, I approached the police and got a complaint registered, but they have been callous, so far," he said.

Khan said his complaint was registered at Sultanpuri police station but no FIR has so far been registered in the matter. "Police have taken so much time. It will only weaken my case. I request them to immediately file an FIR and arrest Nizamuddin. I am the only earning member of my family," Khan said.

When approached by DNA, DCP outer, MN Tiwari refused to comment while his Additional DCP said that the matter is being looked into.

Khan got the railways job in 2016, after qualifying a written test. He lives near Sultanpuri and is raising a family of two, including a child, a student of the second standard.
