Auto rickshaw driver allegedly rapes woman

A 23-year-old woman was allegedly raped by an auto rickshaw driver on Sunday night on the pretext of dropping her at the Anand Vihar ISBT. Police have arrested the accused.

According to the woman, while travelling in the auto, she had fallen asleep after which the driver raped her while she was on her way back home to Bulandshahr. The driver was arrested from his house in East Delhi following a raid.

Police said that the woman, who works as a labourer at a metro construction site in the city, had boarded the auto-rickshaw from the Sarai Kale Khan ISBT for Anand Vihar, to catch a bus.

The woman told that due to a stressful day, she had immediately fallen asleep and this was when the driver took a detour towards Ghazipur and parked the vehicle at a desolate stretch and raped her.

"A case was registered and the accused has been arrested. The matter is further being probed. The woman was also counselled by an NGO," said a senior police officer.
