Lawyers on Thursday said work will remain suspended in all the district courts here on Friday alleging that yesterday's incident showed there was no security even inside the court premises for judges, advocates and litigants.
Lawyers of all six district courts in Delhi will abstain from work on Friday to protest the killing of an advocate inside a court premises in Allahabad allegedly by a policeman.
Lawyers on Thursday said work will remain suspended in all the district courts here on Friday alleging that yesterday's incident showed there was no security even inside the court premises for judges, advocates and litigants.
President of Tis Hazari Court Bar Association Advocate Sanjeev Nasiar said no lawyer would appear in any case in the Delhi district courts tomorrow as they are protesting against the murder and attack on advocates in Allahabad's district court premises allegedly by a cop.
"How can a policeman enter the court premises with weapons and fire at advocates. Government should ensure that no such incident happens in future and strict action be taken against the offenders in this case," Nasiar said.
Chairman of Coordination Committee of All Bar Associations Advocate R K Wadhwa said, "We condemn the incident which happened inside the court premises in Allahabad yesterday. We request the government to have proper security arrangement for lawyers and litigants inside the court complexes across the country."
Meanwhile, the Delhi High Court Bar Association said they would observe a day-long strike on March 16 to protest the killing of the advocate.
30-year-old advocate Nabi Ahmed was shot dead allegedly by sub-inspector Shailendra Singh inside the district court premises in Allahabad on Thursday. The policeman still remains untraceable.
An FIR had been lodged last night at Colonelganj police station in Allahabad by the deceased advocate's father Mohd Shahid Siddiqui saying that he was present at the spot along with his elder son Nafees when Nabi was shot at by Singh.
Siddiqui alleged that his son and the sub-inspector knew each other for some time and they had a dispute over a case registered by Nabi a few months ago, according to the FIR.
Yesterday, during a heated exchange of words between the two, Singh pulled out his revolver and fired at Nabi, Siddiqui said in the FIR. It said the sub-inspector fled the spot while the lawyer succumbed to injuries within a few minutes.
