In yet another setback to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the Delhi government's Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) has registered three FIRs pertaining to the Public Works Department (PWD) scam, in which Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's late brother-in-law Surender Bansal has been named. Bansal died of a heart attack two days ago. It has been alleged that Bansal used to get bills cleared from the PWD in the name of different companies, by using fake and forged documents.

A complaint in this regard was earlier filed by the Founder of Roads Anti-Corruption Organisation (RACO) Rahul Sharma. He said: "We had filed a complaint before Bansal's death. He (Bansal) died hours before Kejriwal's former Cabinet Minister Kapil Mishra named him in a press conference and before these FIRs were registered."

The ousted Minister, Mishra, also filed the same complaint against Bansal and PWD officers.

ACB Chief Mukesh Meena confirmed that three FIRs have been filed. "Names of fake companies were used to clear these bills, while no work was done. We have registered the case against Bansal and senior PWD officials.

Separate cases have been filed because the bills were cleared by different companies for different works," Meena said.

After a criminal complaint in this regard was filed, the matter was also probed by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Delhi Police. The police then filed its status report into the matter before a court in New Delhi two months ago. The report stated that the inquiry into the allegations of irregularities was in progress, and sought some time to conclude it.

Police report

The police report stated that notices were served to Bansal and two others – Kamal Singh and Pawan Kumar
The court had earlier directed the PWD to preserve records related to the award of the contract to his firm.
